I haven't found the time to write much this summer due to our work load and the inability to find a helper for my lead tech. As most people know, the work force isn't what it was even 15 years ago so I spend long days working in the field, then many late hours and weekends in the office. I cannot say enough good things about my lead tech as he is always at work on time and will work as long as it takes.
Now, onto other things that might be helpful to those who find this blog helpful. This cleaning season has been full of many different projects from cleaning concrete and brick with hot water only at The University of Virginia in Charlottesville to something small and important to the home owner, fixing pressure washer marks left on vinyl siding.
It seems more people are finding that they can get their roof cleaned and save thousands of dollars and add many years of life to the roof they have. The problem of premature roof replacement is still a battle all roof cleaners experience. Very few roofing contractors will tell the home owner that they do not need a new roof. They are more than willing to take off a roof that is only fifteen years old and replace it with a new one, sending those shingles to the landfill with at least fifteen years of life left on them. The small group of roof cleaners in the US have to try and find ways to get to the home owners and help them save their money and a perfectly good roof. There just isn't enough information readily available from sources other than roof cleaners. More than 50% of our new customers are skeptical from the start of the bidding process through the cleaning process. Once complete, they love their "new" roof and wish they had cleaned it years before.
When you hear your friends and neighbors talk about getting a new roof, ask them a few questions that might save them a lot of money. How old is your roof? Are you getting a new roof because of those black "stains"? If their roof is under 20 years old then cleaning is a good option. If there is no problem except for those black streaks, they just need an affordable roof cleaning. Remind them to always seek out a roof cleaner who truly uses low pressure. Never let a pressure washer under any circumstances touch your roof.
